Artigo de evento A Needs Engineering Methodology for Identification and Modeling Process Semantics for Cooperation Networks(2016) SOBRINO, F. G.; GATTAZ, C. C.; GONÇALVES, C. M.; FERRÃO, A. M. A.© 2016 IEEE.The complexity of today's world reflects and is reflected on society's lifestyle, space and productive structure, the economy, and in technological processes. In this perspective, the essence of a social glance should not focus exclusively in humanities, but in a new type of engineering of cooperation networks. The identification and modeling of process semantics for cooperation networks should, therefore, seek a kind of engineering focused on the problem and not on the activity or even the solution, as advocated the classical methodologies. The humankind needs require an interoperability between the institutions and subjects and also to the orientation and effectiveness to the results. The engineering of requirements attend as an alternative approach to the identification and modeling of process semantics for cooperation networks and receives the contribution of classic authors of cooperation networks such as Nash (1950a, b), social science, such as Marx, Rousseau, Angel, Habermas (1984), of psychology, known Maslow (1954, 1963), McClelland (1961) of engineering systems, represented by Ramammorthy (2000) and Gattaz Sobrinho (2000). This framework anchors the construction theory, extending and including new variables in the engineering approach, firstly the concept of mankind and society. Engineering and requirements are the theory-reference categories of the proposed approach and research of complexity, inclusion, uniqueness, complexity management which are conceptual categories.Artigo A reference business process for ecological niche modelling(2008-01-05) Santana F.S.; de Siqueira M.F.; Saraiva A.M.; Correa P.L.P.Ecological niche modelling combines species occurrence points with environmental raster layers in order to obtain models for describing the probabilistic distribution of species. The process to generate an ecological niche model is complex. It requires dealing with a large amount of data, use of different software packages for data conversion, for model generation and for different types of processing and analyses, among other functionalities. A software platform that integrates all requirements under a single and seamless interface would be very helpful for users. Furthermore, since biodiversity modelling is constantly evolving, new requirements are constantly being added in terms of functions, algorithms and data formats. This evolution must be accompanied by any software intended to be used in this area. In this scenario, a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is an appropriate choice for designing such systems. According to SOA best practices and methodologies, the design of a reference business process must be performed prior to the architecture definition. The purpose is to understand the complexities of the process (business process in this context refers to the ecological niche modelling problem) and to design an architecture able to offer a comprehensive solution, called a reference architecture, that can be further detailed when implementing specific systems. This paper presents a reference business process for ecological niche modelling, as part of a major work focused on the definition of a reference architecture based on SOA concepts that will be used to evolve the openModeller software package for species modelling. The basic steps that are performed while developing a model are described, highlighting important aspects, based on the knowledge of modelling experts. In order to illustrate the steps defined for the process, an experiment was developed, modelling the distribution of Ouratea spectabilis (Mart.) Engl. (Ochnaceae) using openModeller. As a consequence of the knowledge gained with this work, many desirable improvements on the modelling software packages have been identified and are presented. Also, a discussion on the potential for large-scale experimentation in ecological niche modelling is provided, highlighting opportunities for research. The results obtained are very important for those involved in the development of modelling tools and systems, for requirement analysis and to provide insight on new features and trends for this category of systems. They can also be very helpful for beginners in modelling research, who can use the process and the experiment example as a guide to this complex activity. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. R.This study tested an expanded TBP model, which included personal norms and self-identity as cognitive variables, in a sample of current young volunteers of a general charity in the UK. Actual volunteering was measured via continued observation throughout the duration of the projects. An integrative model of sustained volunteering was proposed because some relationships did not follow the hypothesized paths. Subjective norm emerged as the exclusive determinant of sustained volunteering and also as the potential mediator of the effects of other variables over future volunteering behavior. Two focus groups with volunteers and 28 personal interviews with the coordinators of the volunteering projects were conducted to triangulate the research findings and reveal the main causes for drop-outs and non-attendance. © 2012 The Author(s).Artigo 'ACORDO SETORIAL DE EMBALAGEM: AVALIAÇÃO A LUZ DA RESPONSABILIDADE ESTENDIDA DO PRODUTOR' i(2017) DEMAJOROVIC, Jacques; MASSOTI, B.Artigo Active learning strategies to develop research competences in engineering education(2022-05-31) DENISE RIEG SCRAMIM; LIMA, R. L.; METTASOGLIO NETO, O.© 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to implement and evaluate active learning strategies to support engineering students in the development of research competences, contributing to the growing need for a closer relationship between research and teaching. Design/methodology/approach: This study was developed using an action research approach. The data were collected through observations, questionnaire and focus group in order to evaluate the active learning strategies used in the context of the study, based on students' perceptions. Findings: The results show that the implementation of active learning strategies, such as research-based learning and think-pair-share enhance the development of research competences, namely critical thinking and written communication. Additionally, this approach enables students to develop further their capstone projects, using the standards demanded in research process. Research limitations/implications: The study was based mainly on teacher's observation and the participants are undergraduate engineering students enrolled in the course “Scientific Methodology” during 1 academic year. Practical implications: Two levels of implications can be identified in this study: (1) for teachers' practice, who can adapt the step-by-step descriptions of the implemented approaches and (2) for research, contributing to the discussion about how to explore the teaching-research relationship in undergraduate courses. Originality/value: The course of “Scientific Methodology” is part of the curricular structure of most undergraduate engineering programs offered by Brazilian Higher Education Institutions, and this study is a contribution for the improvement of knowledge on how this course may be conducted in an effective and engaging way. All Rights Reserved. This study develops a theoretical model that relates customer participation in knowledge-intensive services (KIS), the actions of service providers to encourage customer engagement and the effectiveness of services. Five hypotheses were tested using structural equations, and data were collected by surveying a sample of 106 users of physical therapy, personal training, Pilates and global postural reeducation services. The results show that educating customers is not enough; service providers need to empathize and create an emotional bond with them. Additionally, customer education and emotional empathy have different effects on customer feedback and the extent to which customers follow instructions.
