This work aims to examine the pharmaceutical industry in Brazil and the profile of their managers to verify if the components of relational view (DYER and SINGH, 1998) pointed as source of competitive advantage, are embedded in the whole orgaanization. At the same time, it was verified whether the formation of social capital (BURT, 1992) is also associated with business strategy related to organizations managers' skill to build relationships which may create, modify and extend its resources base (TEECE et al. 2007), analyzing the relationship between managers' social capital and organizations. The pharmaceutical industry was chosen in order to represent the state of the art in terms of advances in the field of research and development of new products, it adduces an abundant amount of resources and being an oligopolistic sector of the economy, which should be reflected in their business strategy and the way it's built relationships with managers, business partners, the State and so on. To verify if the relational view and social capital afford the competitive advantage adopted by these organizations, it has been applied to an exploratory research, covering five laboratories and twenty respondents, in order to specifically check whether the principles of the relational view is adopted by the organizations and if there is any relationship between the expansion of the social capital of the organization and its managers' social capital. Results from the research point out to no usage of this kind of strategy by organizations, as well as the low level of absorptive capacity of this potential advantages, available through the identification, acquisition and maintenance of the resouces generated by managers' social networks
