Resumo
O campo de segurança veicular possui diversos pilares regulatórios que contam com décadas de evolução e adaptação do ser humano às novas tecnologias emergentes. A gama de regulamentações ganha cada vez mais complexidade e abrangência, ao mesmo passo que novos questionamentos surgem. Pesquisas mostram que condutoras do sexo feminino possuem 47% mais chances de sofrerem danos graves em acidentes de carro, além de 1.5 até 3 vezes mais chances de sofrerem danos decorrentes do movimento de chicote vertical (Whiplash ou chicote vertical do pescoço). Isso ocorre visto que, as mulheres possuem diversas diferenças físicas em comparação com os homens, incluindo menor estatura e menor densidade muscular, por exemplo. Isso faz com que sejam mais frágeis em uma colisão súbita. Em adição, são utilizados para testes regulatórios e testes de opinião pública, bonecos de teste (dummies) que representam a média da população masculina mundial, o que significa que a mulher adulta não é representada adequadamente nos testes de colisão (crash tests). O intuito do projeto é desenvolver um sistema adaptativo de proteção ao Whiplash que proteja de maneira semelhante ambos os sexos, levando em consideração a gravidade e as diferenças mencionadas.
The vehicle safety field relies on several regulatory pillars which count on many decades of human evolution and adjustment to new thriving technologies. The regulamentation’s range is constantly earning complexity and wideness, at the same pace that new inquiries emerge. Researches prove that female drivers are 47% more likely to suffer serious injuries due to car accidents alongside 1.5 to 3 times more chances to sorrow damages from the sudden vertical neck movement, also called Whiplash. Those effects are noted due to the physical diferences between male and female bodies, including lower stature and muscular density, for instance. These aspects lead to female drivers being more fragile once submitted to abrupt crashes. In addition to that, the only model used to perform both regulatory and public opinion testing is a model that represents 50% of the global male population, which means, female bodies are not taken into account when running crash tests. This project’s porpouse is to develop a Whiplash adpative protection system, capable of protecting both male and female drivers, considering the severity and the diferences mentioned before.
