- Does ecological sustainability really matter? Evaluation of its mediating role in the relationship between innovation and competitiveness(2021-08-05) JACOMOSSI, R. R.; FELDMANN, P. R.; BARRICHELLO, A.; MORANO, R. S.© 2021, ANPAD - Associacao Nacional de Pos-Graduacao e Pesquisa em Administracao. All rights reserved.Organizational studies highlight the role of innovation for competitiveness, but few of them address ecological sustainability as one of the variables in this relationship. The traditional model only considers economic growth to be anchored in the dimension of innovation, disregarding the environment. Thus, the purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of ecological sustainability on the relationship between innovation and global competitiveness. To reach the goal of the manuscript, a database was used that included indicators from 119 countries present in the Global Competitiveness Report of WEF and the Global Innovation Index. The data were treated using regression analysis with mediation techniques. The results suggest significant mediation of ecological sustainability in the relationship between innovation and global competitiveness. This work shows the importance of ecological sustainability to increase country’s innovative activity and consequently its competitiveness. Additionally, it draws attention to the gap in studies that present these relationships at the country level. In terms of practical contributions, the findings support the recommendation for companies to focus on actions to environmental and innovation management improving sustainability and increasing organizational performance and long-term survival. Finally, this research also draws attention to the lack of an important indicator of ecological sustainability in a report addressing countries’ competitiveness.
- Using structural equation modeling: patterns and trends of publications in Brazilian journals(2018-07-31) RIVERA, J.R.D.; JACOMOSSI, R. R.; BARRICHELLO, A.; MORANO, R.S.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze patterns and trends of articles that present the use of structural equation modeling (SEM) and that were published in several Brazilian journals. In addition, this paper maps the institutions where the authors of the identified articles are affiliated, and discusses aspects of searching the articles in journals’ archives and other scientific databases. Design/methodology/approach: The work used bibliometrics, which is one of the forms of evaluation and measurement of information flows in scientific knowledge, using mathematical and statistical methods. Findings: The study showed an exponential growth in using SEM in several areas in recent years, with predominance in marketing. Most of the publications were produced by authors from institutions such as USP, FGV and UFRGS, but most authors published only one article using SEM. Almost all published articles used one of the three most common software, especially AMOS®. Surprisingly, many articles did not mention the software used, indicating methodological flaw. Practical implications: Weaknesses were found regarding the search for articles in the different sources used, indicating that, for literature reviews, the research should be conducted in several databases in a complementary way and not alternatively. This fact becomes critical especially when expressions in languages other than Portuguese were used. This situation suggests an aggravating lack of visibility for the Brazilian scientific community since the articles are less likely to be found. Originality/value: The paper shows that among the various techniques of multivariate data analysis used in the field of administration, SEM has gained prominence being operationalized using specific software.
- Cheating, plagiarism and other fraudulent academic practices: A descriptive study of business undergraduate and graduate students’ behavior Cola, plágio e outras práticas acadêmicas desonestas: um estudo quantitativo-descritivo sobre o comportamento de alunos de graduação e pós-graduação da área de negócios(2014-02-27) VELUDO-DE OLIVEIRA, T. M.; DE AGUIAR, F. H. O.; DE QUEIROZ, J. P.; BARRICHELLO, A.© 2014 Mackenzie Presbyterian University. All rights reserved.Fraudulent activities in the corporate world have been a growing societal concern and may be associated with failures in the educational system. The objective of this study is to analyze the behavior of Business students when it comes to dishonest academic practices such as cheating and plagiarism; the theoretical basis for the development of this research is the work of Chapman, Davis, Toy e Wright (2004). In terms of theoretical scope, this study discusses ethics, competitiveness and the Brazilian jeitinho, as well as the use of fraudulent academic practices in Brazil and worldwide. A survey was implemented and a questionnaire was answered by 164 graduate students and 179 undergraduates. The questionnaire asked about views on several situations involving academic fraud, including a question whether students, as well as their friends and acquaintances, had participated personally in any of these practices. The questionnaire also explored respondents’ behavioral intentions in the face of four different fraudulent academic scenarios, in the light of their relationships with others, whether friends or otherwise. In addition, respondents indicated their level of agreement with beliefs related to dishonest academic activities. In the analysis, univariate and bivariate statistical techniques, such as the t test and correlations, were used. The results show that over 70% of students in both courses have been involved in fraudulent situations in the classroom and more than 90% of them believe that other students have participated in academic fraud. The disposition to cheat is greater when friends are also involved. Graduate students tend to minimize the seriousness of fraudulent acts in universities. This article suggests that educational institutions should act to reduce cheating and plagiarism, but also to promote the integrity that should guide academic and professional conduct. Understanding academic behavior in the face of dishonest practices can help to predict and prevent dishonest behavior in the corporative world.
- Environmental behavior of graduate students: An international structural equation model applied to the brazilian context O comportamento ambiental de estudantes de graduação: um modelo internacional de equações estruturais aplicado no contexto brasileiro(201409-01) Rafael Jacomossi; MORANO, R.; BARRICHELLO, A.With the growing need for citizens to adopt more criticality and reflection into their routine on issues related to greater environmental preservation and, above all, that this higher level of awareness is translated into behavioral changes in search of a more sustainable society, formal education, especially within the scope of undergraduate courses, has shown significant signs that it may contribute to this process. In order to clarify the relation between formal education and sustainable behavior, this article aims to present the application and assessment in Brazil of a structural equation model developed with undergraduate students in Malaysia. The sample of this study consists of 446 undergraduate students from courses in the field of Business in São Paulo city and a confirmatory factor analysis was performed by using the software Lisrel® , to support the discussion and conclusions. As result of the research, it was inferred that education for sustainability allows these students to develop sustainable attitudes as participation in recycling programs, interest in programs on sustainability, economy in water use, etc.
- The importance of education in the context of innovation and competitiveness of nations(2020-03-27) BARRICHELLO, A.; MORANO, ROGÉRIO; FELDMANN, P. R.; JACOMOSSI, Rafael RicardoMuitos são os estudos que indicam a relação entre inovação e competitividade e a importância da educação para ambas.
