In the right place at the right time: A review of mobile location-based marketing and a research agenda
    (2021-06-05) KAMIYA, A. S. M.; BRANISSO, D. S. P.
Copyright © 2021 Korean College of Helicobacter and Upper Gastrointestinal Research. Objective: Based on the increasingly pervasive mobile presence in the retail context, the purpose of this study is to examine the potential effects of the mobile message content and geolocation data as drivers of store visits, connecting online efforts to offline behavior. Method: This article provides a review of the literature of what is known about mobile marketing, location-based communication, and push-notification effects on customer attitudes and behavior. Results: The study synthesize arguments for location-based push notifications related to visits to offline sites, coupon offers, and personalized and high-engagement content. Based on numerous findings from marketing and customer research, it identifies a set of general propositions. Theoretical/methodological contributions: This review intends to contribute to theories of mobile marketing, omnichannel customer behavior as well as the understanding of geolocation promotions. By identifying strategies that marketers employ for more effective geolocation promotions, this review provides an overarching framework to synthesize current findings in mobile location-based marketing and identifies gaps in our current knowledge in order to stimulate additional work in this field. Managerial implications: The main assumption behind the article is that the content and the timing of the message (considering the customer’s geolocation) increase visits to offline sites. Context and convenience as the primary drivers of the effect (visits to offline POS generated by mobile notifications), considering that context and convenience are represented by geolocation and message content. This provides the base for a mobile model for companies to attract customers to physical locations This review contributes by shedding light on the path to mobile activation in a cross-channel retail strategy.

Analysis of the affinity of the principles of corporate governance to the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard Análise da afinidade dos princípios da governança corporativa à norma de sistema de gestão ambiental ISO 14001
    (2020-11-08) GROTTA, R. C.; MACHADO JUNIOR, C.; Maria Tereza Saraiva de Souza; RIBEIRO, D. M. N. M.; BAZANINI, R.
© 2020 Brazilian Institute for Information in Science and Technology. All rights reserved. The purpose of this research is to analyze the adherence of the NBR ISO 14001 standard to the Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance Code of Best Corporate Governance Practices. The perspective established in the research interprets the existence of synergy between management supported by the Environmental Management Systems standard and the Code of Best Corporate Governance Practices. The research analyzed the contents of 177 environmental audit reports, performed by a certification company, which involved a set of 139 companies certified by NBR ISO 14001. It then related the requirements of the environmental management system with the elements present in the IBGC code. It identified the adherence to several requirements in common between the two systems analyzed, thus indicating the adequacy of establishing synergy in actions, and in the information held by both, providing benefits to the organization. Environmental auditing data indicate that companies have more difficult-to-handle items related to operational control, emergency preparedness and assessment of compliance with legal and other requirements. This is important information in the context of corporate governance, since it indicates potential risks that must be eliminated in order to guarantee the perenniality of the organization.

Using structural equation modeling: patterns and trends of publications in Brazilian journals
    (2018-07-31) RIVERA, J.R.D.; JACOMOSSI, R. R.; BARRICHELLO, A.; MORANO, R.S.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze patterns and trends of articles that present the use of structural equation modeling (SEM) and that were published in several Brazilian journals. In addition, this paper maps the institutions where the authors of the identified articles are affiliated, and discusses aspects of searching the articles in journals’ archives and other scientific databases. Design/methodology/approach: The work used bibliometrics, which is one of the forms of evaluation and measurement of information flows in scientific knowledge, using mathematical and statistical methods. Findings: The study showed an exponential growth in using SEM in several areas in recent years, with predominance in marketing. Most of the publications were produced by authors from institutions such as USP, FGV and UFRGS, but most authors published only one article using SEM. Almost all published articles used one of the three most common software, especially AMOS®. Surprisingly, many articles did not mention the software used, indicating methodological flaw. Practical implications: Weaknesses were found regarding the search for articles in the different sources used, indicating that, for literature reviews, the research should be conducted in several databases in a complementary way and not alternatively. This fact becomes critical especially when expressions in languages other than Portuguese were used. This situation suggests an aggravating lack of visibility for the Brazilian scientific community since the articles are less likely to be found. Originality/value: The paper shows that among the various techniques of multivariate data analysis used in the field of administration, SEM has gained prominence being operationalized using specific software.

What does captain cook have to tell us about culture? Contributions for a structural and historical approach to culture and organizations
    (2009-12-05) MASCARENHAS, A. O.; VASCONCELOS, F. C.
Current approaches to culture and organizations fail to define culture dynamics as inextricably wrapped up with the dynamics of cultural resources. Pursuing this goal, this paper aims to further develop the available theoretical anchoring of organizational culture dynamics. We delineate theoretical contributions and methodological implications of a structural and historical approach to culture and organizations. According to this approach, capturing culture dynamics implies studying culture as history and analyzing it as a process of social realization of cultural resources. Drawing upon Marshall Sahlins' classical interpretation of Captain Cook landing in Hawaii and on ethnographic and historic research findings in Rio Pardo, Brazil, we show how interested subjects creatively used their pre-existing cultural categories and schemes of practice as they committed to culturally grounded action strategies, enhancing their particular positions in relation to resources made available, while imposing contradictions to other interested groups that eventually had to be incorporated into cultural order. © The Author(s), 2009.

Competition informations management and strategic orientation Gestão de informações da concorrência e orientação estratégica
    (2012-04-05) OLIVEIRA, B.; PEREIRA, J. A.; DE QUEIROZ, J. P.
This article aims to present the relationship of the marketing information system (MIS) with the strategy of market orientation. Also, the discussion on information management related to competition is included, which has been little explored, especially with regard to its operation. The results, obtained from the literature review and a case study, indicate that although critical for business success, information is obtained, processed and disseminated in not well structured ways.

Knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship: a systematic review and future directions
    (2019-06-21) SOUSA, C.; SILVA, L. S.
© 2019, Emerald Publishing Limited.Purpose: This study aims to propose a framework based on the main theoretical and empirical contributions present in the literature and articulate the main paths for future studies in knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship (KIE). Design/methodology/approach: Using the systematic review method from a survey of 85 articles, related to the KIE focal issue, originated from the Web of Science, it was possible to exhaustively analyze the studies and to divide the theme into key categories. Findings: The present research has raised the relationship of five categories to KIE conceptualizations; the data suggest that although the literature indicates a distancing from KIE research, there are multidisciplinary themes and approaches interlinked in the studies. Originality/value: The systematic approach in the main theoretical and empirical contributions in KIE enabled us to relate five categories (entrepreneurs, innovation, internationalization, location and triple alliance), and finally, to understand the gaps suggested by the researchers.

Sustainability in management education: a Biggs’ 3P model application
    (2020-06-08) KANASHIRO, P.; Edson Sadao Iizuka; SOUSA, C.; DIAIS, S. E. F.
© 2020, Emerald Publishing Limited.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the main factors that contribute to teaching and learning sustainability in management education (SiME), which is defined as a body of knowledge that meets the needs of both current and future generations of students. Design/methodology/approach: The authors adopt the Biggs’ Presage–Process–Product (3P) learning model to guide and categorize the findings from the literature review on SiME. This study provides an overview of journal articles published between 2002 and 2017. Findings: In the context of SiME, Biggs’ 3P model shows how teaching context and students’ background (presage factors) influence students’ approaches to learning, which can range from surface to deep learning (process) and result in various learning outcomes (products). Research limitations/implications: The literature review may have excluded important and relevant work from the sample. Practical implications: This review highlights that personal and institutional commitments are necessary to promote effective learning of sustainability. Social implications: Effective learning outcomes (deep learning) in sustainability should encourage students to reflect on their personal values and behaviors and to acquire analytical skills aimed at promoting conservation and remediation of social, environmental and economic problems. Originality/value: This paper provides an application of Biggs’ 3P learning model in the context of sustainability, which highlights the conditions for deep learning as critical given the complexity and urgency of addressing sustainability crises.

Interorganizational cooperation and eco-innovation: a literature review
    (2020-12-05) PEREIRA, R. M.; Maria Laura Maclennan; TIAGO, E. F.
© 2020, Emerald Publishing Limited.Purpose: The presentation of the specificities inherent in the adoption of the cooperation practices for the eco-innovation development is sometimes fragmented and superficial in the literature. So, the purpose of this paper is to analyze how the literature has studied the association between interorganizational cooperation and the development of eco-innovation, for the developing a framework with the different faces of this connection. Design/methodology/approach: To achieve the proposed objective, the authors conducted a literature review through the Web of Science database. The selected manuscripts were analyzed from the following categories: Why to cooperate?, What is cooperation?, How to cooperate?, Who to cooperate with?, How much is it worth to cooperate?, Where does cooperation take place?, When to cooperate?, and So what?. Findings: Given the proposed objective, as a general aspect highlighted, the analyzed articles revealed that interorganizational cooperation has been presented as relevant for the development of eco-innovations. Thus, cooperation on their different faces allows companies to overcome resource constraints, even partially, while facilitating the development of different types of ecological innovations as costs and risks are reduced. Originality/value: The theoretical contribution is expected to be the proposition of a framework capable of systematizing several specificities, including the antecedents and motivations, definitions and cooperation types, cooperation partners, important conditions that highlight how much cooperation is worth, where and when cooperation occurs and, finally, the main insights of this association, to guide future studies.
