As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the adoption of technology continues to be one of the defining factors of human progress. However, when misused, it can lead to addictive behaviors in people. Nomophobia represents a mental condition caused by the fear of being without a smartphone and disconnected from the digital world generating mental disorders and emotions such as generalized anxiety and tension. Thus, the main objective of this study was to investigate the effects of nomophobia on addictive behavior related to smartphone use and the socio-emotional health of young undergraduate students from Generation Z. This is a quantitative study, using basic and multivariate statistics, in which 71 students from the Administration course at Centro Universitário FEI participated. The results showed that all students (100%) presented some degree of nomophobia, whether mild, moderate, or severe, highlighting the ongoing need to investigate the damages caused by excessive use of electronic devices and seeking a better understanding of the negative effects of screens and other emerging technologies on the socio-emotional health of young professionals from Generation Z.
