- From corporate strategy to procurement practices: a case study about the strategic alignment applied to supplier selection(2022-01-05) Gabriela Scur; KUNIMURA, A. A.; CHANG, J.IEEEThis paper aims to demonstrate if corporate strategy is deployed to purchasing function practices, specifically to select suppliers, considering purchasing categories. The study has a qualitative empirical approach, and it is characterized as descriptive in the specific context of a multinational life science company. Our findings indicate an alignment between corporate strategy and purchasing strategy regarding the elements of corporate strategy, such as innovation, quality, sustainability, delivery, flexibility, and costs. However, the hierarchical cascading of these elements for supplier selection practices does not always occur as in the literature. The results suggest that purchasing categories are determining factors in the strategy alignment. The main contribution of this paper is to point out that there is an alignment between corporate strategy and purchasing strategy regarding the main elements of corporate strategy. However, the hierarchical cascading of such criteria for supplier selection practices does not always occur as previously described in the literature, as there are variables that influence this process. This article indicates that purchasing categories are key determinants of strategy alignment, as in each category a combination of criteria has been more relevant and not necessarily aligned with corporate or purchasing strategy.

However, the speed and scale of new manufacturing technologies are modifying an organization's strategies and manufacturing capabilities to address new market requirements, competition, and new entrants. Advances in robotics are poised to change the global business landscape and to support organizations in improving upon their operations strategies. Industrial robots usually help improve product quality and provide better work conditions to limit the use of resources, resulting in cost savings. One of the main trends in robotics is that of human-robot collaboration (HRC), which influences operations strategies and which can have a disruptive effect on business models and market structures. The aim of this paper is to explore and understand the relationship between the competitive priorities (quality, cost, flexibility, and delivery) of classical operations and the competitive advantage of adopting HRC for a Brazilian automotive parts supplier. The results indicate that the hybrid cell (U-shaped manufacturing cell) fully adheres to cost and dependability priorities and partially adheres to quality and flexibility priorities.
