Through the last decades, there has been an exponential growing on electrification, automation and technologyin general in several parts of society,in order to optimize and better develop products and services that bring comfortand time saving aspects in people’s lives. Considering that, the health sector could not beleft behind since it is one of the most importantones, for obvious reasons. The goal of this project was to develop a serum support (steel shaft) that can move it self automatically, following the patient as he/she walks. Theserum support couldbe used widely in hospitals (ICU or general medical centers) and even inthe patient’s home. A research with workers and students of the health area was made before the development of the project in order to identify how useful the idealized functions were. The electronic movement system is given by the transmission and readingof infrared signals, where the emittersare mounted in a bracelet device, used by the patient, and the receptors are mounted on the steel shaft. An Arduino boardwas used for monitoring the infrared receptors and it is also responsible for activating two DC motors located under the support’s base. Besides the autonomo us movement function, this project also includes an electronic touch screen display, where is possible to add and visualize key information about the patient, as well as to programremedy doses in scheduled times. This was possible byusingan open source library called Kivy, on Python programming languageon a Raspberry Pi board. The flow of these medicationsis given by controlling small three-wayvalves, activated by the Raspberry boardas well. The biggest challenges faced regarding the autonomous movement system were connected to the infrared communication, where the emitter-receptor pair needed tobe relatively aligned between each other. This problem could be solved by making use of collimator lenses that raise the reception area of the infrared receptors.en
