    Evaluation of circular business model: Theory of Change approach

    © 2022 Elsevier LtdThe transition from linear to circular business models, in which companies match the financial return with positive socio-environmental impact, is increasing. From this perspective, investing in projects or organizations aligned with the principles of circularity can be characterized as impact investments. However, a challenge that emerges for these investments that is gaining increasing prominence in the academic and corporate environment is related to the development of an efficient evaluation model concerning its real impact on business. Based on the Theory of Change and in the context of circular business models, this paper aims at proposing an integrative tool to evaluate impact investments and applying it to a circular business of the home appliance segment. The articulation between the ToC and circular business models can support the structuring of an evaluation model on the production logic of the desired (economic, environmental, and social) impact. Results present that an integrative tool can provide a way for companies, institutions and investors to compare the impact investment opportunities related to Circular Business Model.

    A cultura do uso e descarte de produtos, antes mesmo de sua vida útil se esgotar, é decorrente do modelo econômico linear presente no mundo desde a Revolução Industrial. No entanto, ainda que a sociedade majoritariamente siga este modelo, ela vem se conscientizando da necessidade de mudança para um sustentável. Apoiado nesse fato, o conceito da Economia Circular está se tornando cada vez mais presente nas empresas que adotam estratégias de sustentabilidade operando em conformidade com as regulamentações já em vigor. Com o objetivo de compreender como as práticas da Economia Circular são implementadas em uma companhia do ramo elétrico, este trabalho irá estudar os princípios deste modelo e a sua relação com as condutas já implementadas em uma empresa. Para isso, foi realizado um estudo de caso na Schneider Electric, propondo como resultado, novas estratégias de implementação como oportunidade de melhoria focada na circularidade.

    Enabling factors and strategies for the transition toward a circular economy (CE)

    © 2018 by the authors.This study aims to identify and analyze the enabling factors and strategies for the structuring and diffusion of a circular business model. Circular model structuring involves several actors, challenges, and barriers. In this context, the present study allows discussion of the business structure in line with the principles of circularity and can contribute by mapping the factors and strategies to be worked for business development in the circular context, providing an overview and guidance for academics, businesspeople, and professionals. Through a case study method, the research allowed identification of the factors and an in-depth understanding of the strategies and drivers of circular business models; from the empirical research, it will be possible to identify opportunities that align with what is already known, but also what may be specific to the context of emerging countries to enable the circular model.
